An ideal place
The Region of Murcia is located in the south-east of Spain, between the Regions of Valencia and Andalusia.
It has a privileged geographical location, right by the Mediterranean Sea, which enables it to enjoy wonderful weather: more than 300 days of sun every year and an average temperature of 18ºC.
It has a population close to half a million people living in 45 municipalities. The main cities are Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca.
Our Region is a land of contrasting landscapes: we have two seas, the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor, that together cover 250 km of coast (known as Costa Cálida), but also a beautiful inland rural area combining valleys and mountains.
It has an important infrastructure network, and attention should be drawn to its international airport, strategically located and well connected to the rest of the Region of Murcia through a motorway network across its territory.
The main economic sectors are agriculture (nearly 20 per cent of the fruit and vegetables consumed in Europe come from the Region of Murcia) and tourism. The industrial and technological sectors also have significant relevance in its economy.
The Region of Murcia has a modern and effective health system with hospitals and health centres across its territory; it offers a great range of cultural activities and enjoys great citizen security.
One of the great charms of the Region of Murcia is its rich gastronomy: quality foodstuffs, both from the sea and the land, excellent wine (there are three designations of origin: Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla) and good restaurants offering both traditional and innovative and avant-garde cuisine.
Its extraordinary weather conditions make the Region of Murcia the perfect place to practice all sorts of sports activities: sailing (it has a large number of marinas), diving, hiking, mountain bike, etc.
Our Region is also a privileged setting to play golf. We currently have 22 high level golf courses, with an average distance among them of less than 35km.
The people in the Region of Murcia are approachable and welcoming, they like enjoying the streets and squares in their villages and towns, as well as their customs and traditions. But at the same time they are hard-working enterprising people.
The Region of Murcia is an ideal place to live, both to start a family and to retire and enjoy a well-deserved break after a lifetime working.
